My brother is a 12 year old moderate dyslexic.
He stutters a lot and has difficulty expressing himself in every language he knows. He speaks english at home and italian in school. He takes ages to do his homework and to study.
Anyone have any similar experiences?..
Teachers are not tolerant with him. Mom is constantly getting notes from teachers in his homework book on his 'dreamlike' behaviour and forgetfulness.

I come from a family of stutterers and recommend that you check out The Stuttering Foundation at www.stutteringhelp.org to find information that will help with that area. Their book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" helped several of my uncles and cousins. The Foundation also has a list of specialists worldwide. You might contact ASHA, the American Speech and Hearing Assoc., also.

Your brother needs to go to a doctor that can diagnose both the dyslexic and stuttering and give you some kind of proof on paper. Bring those papers to school and make an appointment with the counselors and school administration to put him in a special needs class. Nothings going to change unless this is done.

This is no big surprise that the teachers are not tolerant. Can your brother go to another school?
Teachers are people to and some of them do not understand children with special needs, or do not want to take the time for children with special needs.
As I found out with my children, get him diagnosed by a doctor, this is the only way schools will listen.
Good luck to your brother!

My son is almost, but not quite like that. My son isn't dislexic, but he stutters & is in a dreamlike state fantasy world so to speak. The school he goes to though accomodates him because he needs that extra time. email me or have your mom email me so we can talk. I would like to tell your mom how THIS school has helped my boy. THere is testing they are required to do and accomodations they are required to do if the parent requests it.
