I am in 11th grade, but I will be 18 next week ( I should be in 12th grade but I had to repeat 1st grade ten years ago ). Anyway, either way I am in in high school.

I am usually a straight A student or I get close to straight A's. But this year my grades are not as good. I am getting B's and C's and few A's.
I have had a really bad start. My teachers hate me because I have been missing A LOT of school. But that was because I was sick more this year and I am going to be out now because of my grandmother's death. I am completely upset about my grandma because we were very close and already my school does not understand. Tomorrow, I have to see my grandma dead. My mother asked for my school work but they would not give it to her ( but that is because I have not missed 3 days yet in a row so they might tomorrow. )

Anyway, I just want to start all over. At my current school I am shy and I have hardly any friends. I want to have more friends, miss no school, & get better grades.

OK. difficult violent child in my class aged 10. (Has a history of fighting, upseting others, storming out of class, swearing in a variety of languages shouting at, being disrespectful to and even once injuring teachers). Possible reasons are that he is a refugee from Somalia and later had a short stay in the middle east, plus he was badly bullied when he first arrived in the UK. (the refugee EAL thing is very common in our school). So, the strategies I have put inplace for him are this; he sees a councillor once a week, I have a home school book for him - where I write down what he has done that day and put a smiley/frowny face so his mum, who doesn't speak English, can see how he's been. She has to sign this to show whe's seen it and her elder children can translate what it says. I also go down the road of praising, a lot confidence building etc...the home school book has worked really well until recently. but he's been awful the past week - any ideas?

I am a teacher with a lot of experience with ASD students; ASDs also run in my family. As a child, I had a form of linguistic disability which relates to an ASD (although my verbal communciation is now fine).

Sometimes I have to speak with parents and carers, and be very blunt with them about their kids' behaviours; basically what they cannot help and what they can but choose to do wrongly. I find it very hard because parents ALWAYS assume I don't know and am 'not being understanding' and that I've no experience of what I am talking about because I am able to seperate the behaviour from the syndrome and not just say 'ah poor thing'. This is not the case.

Anyone else have to give hurtful truths as part of their job? How do they do it without being tempted to sweep things under the rug to avoid being called mean?

I need advice. I missed 4 years of secondary school and ended up getting G grades in my GCSEs (apart from a D/C grade in English)
i was suffering severe depression after losing my grandmother and also school phobia but no-one got me any help. i was also suffering neglect at home.
after I sat my GCSEs no-one really got me any help...and as a consequence i very stupidly sat at home until I was 18.
I am so scared.....because I don't even know how to cook, use a washing machine, use public transport etc.....
Can I fix this situation by using Home tuition? If so then how should I go about this? how would I know how to arrange the sujects/which subjects to take/how many hours? I am imagining that it would take me 5 years of home education to catch up (I'd be 23 by this time) before I could sit my GCSEs. How would this work?
Who would teach me though? my dad would probably be working for most of the day, my mum is terminally ill :'(
and my dad says that he couldn't afford to pay for pay for home tuition(could he not get a better job or we move into a smaller house?) also...what if my dad refused to let me have home tuition?
I have loooked at doing GCSEs at college...but i don't see how it could ever work..theyonly cover work from the last 2 years of school...and I missed years and years of work even from before then...so I wouldn't understand the content of the course
also...I wouldn't have a clue how to put a programme of GCSEs together/link the subjects....or how to learn stuff such as how to write a cv, use a bus, cook etc....
or have a clue about careers/jobs etc....
my only other option is an entry level course for complete dim-wits(sorry) I feel physically sick. even if I did this I most likely still wouldn't get any support at home.....
What on earth am i going to do? Would home education work? HELP!!!!!!
I live in England

While on school property, during school hours is the school responsible to protect.?
this includes emotional and mental harm.
i am trying to maintain my child's right to an education and protect her at the same time. she was sexually assaulted (a young man put his hand down her blouse and groped her breast in a random act of violence) while waiting outside the principles office at the middle school. it was reported. the young man arrested. he was already on probation for drug issues. his parents responded by putting him in a christian school which he was recently expelled from. now he is back at the middle school. my daughter has been distraught from the beginning. she is young for her age raised on a ranch and is a good student. she is in the band, year book commitee, 4H and is active in our church. we live in a small town and have one middle school.

what role does the school have to protect my girl while she is at school. what do i say to the principle.
he goes to court next

I spent 3 years in New Yok, by that time I studied in School # 6 and Lawrence Junior High School (7th grade 1974). Is there someone here from that period?

I hate science and math, and am doing poorly in those subjects in my junior year of high school. Try as I might, I cannot do well in those subjects. On the other hand, I enjoy english and history, and for extra curricula, am taking philosophy and drama, which I'm doing well in.

Does this mean I have some sort of learning disability?

My public high school orchestra which is located in the United States is scheduled to perform 'Hatikvah', the national anthem of Israel, at a large, public performance in New York City. Do you feel that this is an appropriate performance piece? Consider the controversial political and religious implications of the piece and the performing group. Thanks for your feedback.
