Higher Education (University +) - February 2007

I am a sophomore at a small catholic National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in the Los Angeles area. It is very prestigious and hard to get into. I am currently taking all honors classes and an AP history course. I have a cumulative GPA of approximately 4.61, which translates into about a 3.91 when unweighted. I am on student council, I am currently a member of the class Ring distribution committee, and I also do charity work (I tutor underprivileged inner-city children). In addition, I am a strong swimmer on my school's swim team and I am a member of a few different clubs (book, debate, and JSA). I plan on taking all honors courses next year, as well as AP US History and AP English III and possibly AP Biology. My weakest subject is science, chemistry to be exact, I received a B+, I am afraid this might hurt me in the admissions process even though it is an honors class. I am VERY interested in government, political science, law, and journalism. Only answer if knowledgeable, thanks!

I am a freshman at the University of California-Berkeley and I am trying to plan out courses for the major(s) that I would like to pursue, everyone says that I should major in business or go pre-med but I really enjoy sociology and I took a class in Mass Comm and I like that too so I was thinking about a double major in that with a minor in Education. Any advice?? I also plan to go to law school but I dont want to go Pre-law because I want to be efficient in other areas of interest. So should I consult a counselor or should I follow my own judgement??

I am totally against it. Even if you have worn uniforms from K-12, I don't think there should be uniforms in college (I wore them from 9-12, with a rather strict dress code from 1-8). In college, people are adults and should make their own decision and if they don't get to make this decision in college, then when will they get the opportunity? At work? Doutbful. The only exception I agree with is with military colleges.

I have looked on many volunteering sites and they offer opportunities, but not hands on experience. I have tried to look for internships, and I can't find any available. This question is specifically for students who are in a physician assistant program. How did you fulfill the requirement of 150+ hours of healthcare experience in order for admission into physician assistant school. I live in New York, so I would prefer New York PA students, if there are any. Thanks.

I'm considering doing a degree in French part time. I already have a degree and know that the hours they say you should spend on the work is not realistically the amount you do. For example, a degree is supposed be full time, when inreality the work only takes a couple of hours a week. How long should I expect to spend per week and has anyone done this degree? Thanks

It's driving me nuts!!! Where, on the internet, can I find some sort of test which would tell me what my ideal course would be?

By the way, I've already taken the Stamford Test, but the results weren't convincing because the test was far too vague.
