I really want to go to UCLA and i was wondering if they have any preferences/qualities that they want to see in their applicants.

In general they are looking for good students with solid academic records and/or a major skill or talent (sports, music etc.). Anything you do well or have done well in that show excellence will help. Things like publishing something, presenting nationally or internationally, service to the community, research etc. Any/all will make your app stand out in some way.

Good grades, high SAT scores, interesting admissions essay, favorable recommendations and a number of extracurricular activities -- same as any other highly rated university.

Admissions officers tend not to look too favorably at tricks.
