Approximately 2 -3 years of prerequisites and 4 years of pharmacy school.

As soon as you have your degree and pass your boards, you get paid as a pharmacist, up until then you work as an intern and still get paid, but not as well.

Pharmacists start right around $100,000 a year working full time.

I don't know about good pharmacy schools in MD, just make sure the school is accredited and you should be fine.

You don't need another degree to apply for pharmacy school. Check with the pharmacy schools you are considering and get a list of their prerequisites. You will need chemistry, physics, calculus, and English classes.

When you graduate from pharmacy school you will have a PharmD (doctorate of Pharmacy). There used to be a B.S. degree that took 1 year less, but in order to be accredited, all pharmacy schools had to switch to PharmD only.

About how far you can go in the field, you can go as far as you want.

I personally am not a pharmacy major, but I do go to Duquesne which seems to be very popular for pharmacy. Here, it is a six year program and you receive a masters degree. It's not in Maryland, but it's in Pittsburgh. So, depending on where you live in Maryland, it may not be too far.

As far as advancement in the field, once you're a pharmacist that's up to you. You can work for a chain or for yourself. Shorter programs give you the knowledge necessary to become a pharmacy technician, but that's not nearly as well paid.

With every field of employment, starting income depends on where you are. Working in a major city will pay more (cost of living is higher). Working in the country will pay less (cost of living is lower). If run your own pharmacy, you make whatever profit there is, thus it's dependent on you.

wow what a coincidence! My sister just got accepted to a pharmacy school in Shenandoah. It's a really great school but only about 75 are admitted each year. She did four years of college at towson majoring in biology and she'll be in pharmacy school for 4 more years. I hear they make very good money without the constant demand of being a doctor. with the right training i'm sure you could be making 100,000 after just a couple years
