Business major, biology minor, marketing emphasis.... I would like to be an optometrist. I am looking for something beyond the traditional formal paper.

Optometrists do prescriptions for glasses and contact, opticians make the glasses, opthamologists do the surgery. I appreciate the awnser, but I'm trying to be more optometrist focused, not optician focused...

Herre's an idea (you said you wanted something beyond the usual).

Genetic engineering and biotechnology are forging a revolution in medicine that is only just now beginning to make itself felt. And a lot of that research--as well as other aspects o fmedical technology--focuses on vision/eyes.

So here's the topic suggestion: Look at the emerging technologies and biotechnology and examine how this is likely to affect the business side of eye care--including optometry, of course.

Hope that helps.

You mean, you're looking for a real eye opener? If you're taking business and marketing, why not trace the history of eyeglass frames, relate them to the fads of the day and pick out some of the fun ones, like Dame Edna's (she's -- or rather he, because DE is a guy in drag) is an Aussie cult figure who wears magnificent eye glasses. You could even use your computer art skills to put glasses on icons such as Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and Mickey Mouse.

At many universities a thesis is a one-semester-lengthy procedure and the pupil receives unit credit for it. i'm no longer constructive precisely what you're asking, notwithstanding it truly is way more effective to receive an honors degree than to drop out of the honors application ensuing from difficulty in searching time to position in writing a thesis.

What about the Wal-martization of optometry practices?

Lots of Wal-marts now have optometrist offices in their stores. Since there's a Wal-mart or three in practically every town in America now, you could interview several optometrists at Wal-mart, ask about why and how they came to work for Wal-mart, whether they initially had their own businesses, whether they took a job with Wal-mart right out of optometry school, etc.

You could even devise an online survey (advertised through a journal of optometry or through a professional association of optometrists) to measure job satisfaction in Wal-Marts versus freestanding practices. Or measure something else.

Since this research would involve human subjects, make sure you clear your questionnaire and research procedures through your university's Human Subjects Reseach office, or whatever it's called at your university. (Talk to a sociology professor to find out what your university requires, and how they can help with posting online surveys and the like.)

Well if you get into economics with business I'd love to read a paper on economic roll-over from one president to the other and how long it would last into the new presidents term before the new presidents economic policy fully takes effect over the past president. To me with some research and great examples to back it up would be a great thesis.
