I am a freshman at the University of California-Berkeley and I am trying to plan out courses for the major(s) that I would like to pursue, everyone says that I should major in business or go pre-med but I really enjoy sociology and I took a class in Mass Comm and I like that too so I was thinking about a double major in that with a minor in Education. Any advice?? I also plan to go to law school but I dont want to go Pre-law because I want to be efficient in other areas of interest. So should I consult a counselor or should I follow my own judgement??

Go with your own judgment; majoring in something you enjoy means you'll do better (good grades) and get along better with your professors (good recommendation letters). You may need to consult a counselor to get help on planning your course schedule (double major plus a minor can be hard to manage sometimes), find a supportive counselor and stick with him/her. With good grades and good recommendation letters, all you need to do is study for the LSAT and you'll be well on your way to law school. If you end up not going to law school, a double major in Soc and Mass Comm and a minor in Ed will ensure you have plenty of choices on the job market.

What kind of law do you want to do? Major in that. The most important thing to law schools are your GPA and LSAT score. The other stuff is secondary (altho extra currics can really swing things in your favor). Law schools don't care what major you are.

I'm also not aware of any pre-law major anywhere. Anyways, the key is to not bite off more than you can chew. Mass Comm and Sociology are known to be on the easy side at Berkeley (you'll also find a decent number of people who plan on going to law school in them). Doesn't mean they're a total walk in the park. Especially when you double up.

Mass comm is good, we can all use some good PR. Sociology will also give you a good understanding of your audience. Both of these majors will really help in Marketing. my 2 cents.
