Aren't you just purchasing a stand alone unit? Is there an extra signal being sent that requires a service charge? Am I misunderstanding something about this? Why pay monthly? I'm not paying monthly for my dvd player or vcr, so why these items? Can someone explain this to me? Can I purchase a DVR off of ebay and get away without paying monthly charges?

Are studios supporting only the Blue Ray technology (like Disney or Sony Pictures) will release their features on HD DVD as well...?

we just had comcast come out today to hook up 2 DVR boxes. So that brings the count to 2 DVR boxes and 4 regualr boxes. All of them hooked up fine except the one in my room and thr guy told my father (an electrician) that the cable going to my room is wring and has to be changed to a certain one. My father changed it and the box is still not working...here is what it is doing.

All channels say To Be Announced.... I know from past experience that you have to give it a few minutes, but it has been about a half hour and finally, the guide says the correct shows, but the actually channel says that it should be availabel shortly.

We unplugged the box for 30 sec. like they recommend, and that whole To be announced thing starts all over again.

The comcast guy wont come out till tomorrow...so you think that it is the box? All of the other boxes in the house, off of that splitter, work ust fine, it is ust mine.

Also, i get one channel (the TV guide channel) and it is pixelated.

They are currently encrypted and require a card and sky box. Sometime in the future they will become freely available on satelite via a normal digibox. Any ideas when?

Can I get an all-in-one thing like this? Or anything close to it? Links and websites would be fabulous. Thanks.

I have tried every possible avenue to buy a replacement or have the faulty one repaired.it seems my only chance is someone who has one lying in a cupboard or up in the loft. The recorder is like new it seems a shame to lose use of it simply for a remote.

I live in NYC and I am a huge sports fan. I only pay $9.95 a month but I get SNY, YES, MSG, FSNY, XM RADIO, etc.
I just hope I can keep these channels.
Has anyone ever gotten free channels?

I want to buy a tivo -- should I buy the 80 min. one or the 180 series 2 one? I have DSL internet.....cable tv, but no satallite or digital tv.....do I need to buy a separate service to hook tv up or can I just buy the unit and begin using it?

Is it true Tivo can record two shows at once? how is this possible?

Is there a difference between Tivo and Dvr, if so what?

Also, do you have to pay a monthly fee with either? I have seen cable channels offer Dvr, but can you buy one were you do not have to pay the montly fee?
