I read another user's question regarding the DVR 1200. Mine has a hum in the background of anything I record. Any ideas how to get rid of this? If the patent thing wasn't their only problem no wonder they went out of business.

Here at my house we use the VCR a lot. We tape a lot of shows when we can't watch them, 5 minutes of news we want to keep for some reason, football games, etc. There is no tivo in Portugal and apparently nothing similar is going to be available in the near future. :o(

While we use a DVD player, we do not own a DVD recorder. I'm thinking of buying my family one this Christmas. That's why I'm asking for your opinion: what are the biggest differences between a DVD recorder and a VCR (besides the quality and durability, of course)? Is it easy for someone who is used to working a VCR to adapt to the DVD recorder? Is programming as easy as with the VCR? Also, what advantages are there to buy a DVD recorder with HDD?

I know I could buy a combo, but I prefer just the DVD recorder. I appreciate any useful info. Thanks!

I'm thinking of getting one but the guy at the store said the discs only hold about 2 hrs of recording. I'm hoping to record a marathon on TV (9hrs-9 episodes) and I don't want to change the disc every 2 hrs. Also, when you access the recordings, are they like tapes where I'd have to fast forward to the episode I want? Any suggestions on the best kind of DVR would be appreciated too.

Can this be done by connecting them to each other?

Does this work if you first hook your VCR into a camcorder and record. Then hook the camcorder into the DVDR and record. I don't want to pay the $100 for the devices to remove the copyrights from VHS tapes.

I am looking for a PVP that encodes to Windows Media (for compatibility with my XBOX 360) and is also compatible with my Dish Network DVR Receiver. What I want to do is record my favorite shows and movies with my Dish Network 625 Receiver, then transfer them to a PVP for portability, then transfer them to an external hard drive to be stored and watched whenever I want on my XBOX 360. I have looked at the pocketdish website and read lots of other stuff online, but I can not find the answers that I seek.
1. Do any of the PVP's encode into WMV?
2. Once I have recorded video to a PVP can it then be transferred to a computer or is it just stuck on the PVP?
3. Does anybody have any real experience doing the things I am asking?
Thanks
