It depends on what type of DVR you have. If you got a Tivo, there is tons to brag about. If you have a cable DVR, then there is not much to brag about except for the obvious.
1. Season Pass - record an entire season effortlessly
2. Search by keyword, category, names, genre
3. Fast forward through commercials
4. Record multiple shows at the same time as you are watching.
5. Some DVR's have video on demand.
6. Some DVR's output in true digital via HDMI or DVI.
7. Some DVR's can record HDTV.
8. Some DVR's can download shows to a computer.
9. Pause live TV.

not much its a waste of money we just got 1 also and actually have it in 2rooms. if you are fast forwarding it is actually not fast forwarding like the reg vcr does . we tested it by fast forwarding it on one tv and watching it normal on the other and the comercial ended at the same time on both the tv;s so its not fast at all. we just invested in a 18 mnth contract for nothing dvr's are only good for recording shows/movies. once it starts recording thiugh you cannot watch anything else on that tv either,,,,,its a joke i think its false advertising also.

You can pause TV. After you have it paused for a while, you can just skip the commercials by fast-forwarding.

You can rob the parts from it and make some cool electronic stuff.
