I am very NOT technical savvy, but want to buy my husband a great father's day gift. I am unclear about the DVD/DVR that you can buy, they say in the description they will record your tv shows and what not. What if you play a DVD in a seperate dvd player hooked up and it is showing on the screen, would the recorder tape that? (Like a VCR would)
Thanks

We would like to get DirecTV, but we are currently living in a second-floor apartment. The deck has a clear southern exposure, but the dish would have to go on the deck, which is screened. Would this work?

Also, I understand that it is necessary to embed the pole on which the dish is mounted in a bucket of concrete. Who would I contact to do this?

I use a Time Warner DVR. It's been on the fritz off and on lately. I rebooted it so that it will record and replay correctly, but it still won't pause/rewind live tv. Does anyone else's do this? Do you know if there's a way I can fix this or will I have to contact Time Warner?

I guess basically like a VCR but with a hard drive instead of a tape. Any other bells and whistles would be icing on the cake.

I have a High Defenition DVR from Directv. I would like to archive my recordings in HD to my computer. I know the information is encrypted but does anyone know if there is a software out there that can accomplish this?

I just am sick and tired of VHS tapes to record my shows that come on tv. I would like to record them digitally and not need any tapes or cds.

I need to buy professional quality DVD+R blank media disks to record my home movies from y video camera. I use cheap 100 pack disks that work okay for a few weeks then die. I need professional quality disks that wil last a lifetime. I dont mind paying for them. Money is no object. I need quality over quantity.

There must be some kind of hardware/software that allows me to record TV shows on a gigantic hard drive that's in my computer. How do I do this?
