I have a DVR that records high def. I want to move some high def programming from my DVR harddrive to a DVD using a recorder. I know can't keep the high definition quality when I go to DVD, but will the recording be watchable as standard definition on the DVD? I fear that the final DVD will just have a jumpy picture that isn't watchable.

I have a Vizio 32 inch HDTV. When I watch regular channels on the Motorola Moxi DVR they are widescreen and look super. However, when I switch to an HD channel it goes from being displayed in widescreen to being displayed in what looks to be a 4:3 aspect ratio. I mean the picture there looks AWESOME but I was wondering why it isn't in widescreen. The Moxi box is set to widescreen display and I believe i have the HD to display in 1080.

Does any else have this problem with DVD players?

I have looked at the instruction manual over and over. My wife and I cannot make that little icon go away. It is a MagnaVox MDV458.

To top things off, we bought the kids a DVD player and the same thing happens. That icon won't go away either.

Basically, I just bought a DVD recorder for my TV set. It's a lesser expensive Panasonic. I like to watch and record TV shows. I only watch them once. Then I like to re-record over them like you do with a VHS tape.

I know I can do this with a DVD-RW, but my question is: Once I finalize this disc to play on a different DVD player, can I erase it again? Or once it's finalized, it becomes a "read only" DVD even though its a DVD-RW.

I had a nice Sony VHS VCR, it always worked, AND RECORDED, tapes were robust, sound was digital (though picture was not), and it had nice features like PDC etc.

But more importantly, the picture never 'jarred' when panning very fast, every tape played, so no films were every thrown, and I was not too bothered by having a slow fast forward / rewind on my films.

The picture quality was ok too with chrome tapes.

Anyone else miss their VCR?

We have an old TIVO box which was used with a satellite hookup. Due to poor reception, we're going back to cable and are being told we can't use the TIVO. Is this true? And if not, how would we do the hookup from the cable box? We also have a DVD/VCR recorder in the mix.

You pay alot of money for doubled channels that just play the same things. They have 2 of every channel and most of the time they are showing the exact same thing as another. I thought I paid for extra channels not the same ones.

Today it recorded as a suggestion on airplane crashes that occur in many mountain states. I'm flying from one of the mountain states featured in the program ,and needless to say I'm a little spooked. I don't generally watch catastrophy programs or airplane programs or how things work programs. How does the suggestion feature work exactly?
