Mine seems to stall out at times, forcing me to watch a commercial that I'd like to just pass over.

I just want a DVR that has an analog cable tuner and allows me to set a timer to record stuff. I don't need a fancy guide. My cable doesn't use a special converter either. Technically, I could use a VCR, but the quality is crap. I also don't want to pay subscription fees.

with all the hysteria from the movie and TV studios about copyright protection, are we going to lose the ability to time shift and record things we want to keep onto tape or disc. I see less and less DVD recorders in the store. There are as of yet no high definition DVD recorders. Sure you can get a cable box or Tivo but that is only temporary hard drive storage. Unless people speak out and demand the ability to record, I am afraid the old days of recording shows, music, sports etc will be gone forever. The studios want us to BUY all their shows and movies. Do people realize what is going on here????

To recap question. I live in a small block of flats and have normal sky TV through a dish that is shared by 9 other flats. I would like Sky + but understand that to use the record facility an extra cable needs to be run from the LNB, as I dont own the dish the work needs to be done by a contractor which could cost a bit of money. My question is if I got the proper fittings could I just loop the 1 cable that I have now into the second connection ? Or will the signal not be good enough ?

For give me, I know nothing about TIVO. I'm also wondering it's easy to travel with TIVO. I want to get TIVO for my folks, but they have a summer and winter residence, so I don't know if it's worth it for half the year.

The cable man came again today, with a new box, and everything looks OK so far.

He called the center and asked for them to send a signal...they were backed up and had 37 signals to send out before this one. We waited and slowly we got an Ip address and channels like HBO, Encore, and local cable...we are I am waiting for 2-99 (the regualr channels) How long does this usually take on a busy night for Comcast?? Like 20 min. or 3 hours??
