with all the hysteria from the movie and TV studios about copyright protection, are we going to lose the ability to time shift and record things we want to keep onto tape or disc. I see less and less DVD recorders in the store. There are as of yet no high definition DVD recorders. Sure you can get a cable box or Tivo but that is only temporary hard drive storage. Unless people speak out and demand the ability to record, I am afraid the old days of recording shows, music, sports etc will be gone forever. The studios want us to BUY all their shows and movies. Do people realize what is going on here????

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players just recently came out. There are already blank discs for these formats that can be used in computers. It is just too soon for such a recorder to hit the market. There have already been digital VHS HD recorders and HD DVR's. I believe the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD recorders are just around the corner. While it is technically possible for content providers to prevent you from recording their content, I doubt that most will exercise this ability on anything but PPV movies and the sort. It probably won't matter much anyway as someone will figure out how to hack it eventually.
