I want a simple DVR that has these functions?

I just want a DVR that has an analog cable tuner and allows me to set a timer to record stuff. I don't need a fancy guide. My cable doesn't use a special converter either. Technically, I could use a VCR, but the quality is crap. I also don't want to pay subscription fees.

Any DVRs on the market right now can do all of that and more. Best Buy carry a Liteon model that cost only about $80. You may find it cheaper online. Check around.
