Can a DVR be used with basic TV?

By basic TV I mean non-cable. TV from antenna

Yes. The DVR should have a RF input and output that's use to connect to your tv.

TV from antenna? Hm dont know I'd call the cable company and ask because you'll still have to go there to get the box etc

Sure, you can get a tivo for basic tv, but you will have to pay the subscription still.
