What do you think about it? I've read some bad reviews for it.

I have the HR20-700. I like it, but it is not as user friendly as Tivo, which I also have for my non-HD tv upstairs. At first I really didn't like the HR20, but after reading up on it and getting used to it, it isn't bad at all. If I never had a TiVo, I wouldn't think anything negative about the unit. Also, there have been several software updates, so many problems highlighted in older reviews have now been resolved.

The only thing that the HR20 doesn't have that I really like on the TiVo is the dual channel buffer. If you decide to get one, check out http://www.dbstalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=115 for troubleshooting, and tips and tricks that will make your use of the HR20-700 much more enjoyable.

Yes, we do. I really like DirecTV, but I feel as though we are paying all this extra money for like 6 HD channels. Of course, certain channels broadcast things in HD, but the exclusive HD channels on DirecTV kind of suck. I do love my Tivo, however, and I would not trade that for anything. But Tivo can be found with other services.
