Gold plated contacts mean you get slightly reduced terminal resistance, but nothing that can be detected by humans looking at a TV screen. They are a good way of convincing the technically inept to part with their money.

Gold is NOT a better conductor than silver. Silver is absolutely a better conductor...but silver will tarnish. Gold will not.
Oxygen-free silver is the BEST...but VERY expensive.
Gold is the myth of audio and video..silver is the way to go!

THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE, I JUST BOUGHT A HDR TELLY, AND BOUGHT THE GOLD SCART FOR IT, THE PICTURE IS VERY GOOD, BUT DONT KNOW IF THE SCART MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE.

Yes thy do seem to work better on our LCD TV,i bought
three from an EBay seller and they were very cheep,less

yes, well worth it if you want a good quality picture, you can by them from some stores relatively cheaply, so dont be conned by the big technological conglomerates.
