Consumer Electronics - 9 September 2007

Well I went to Circuit City to buy a 42” LG plasma TV. The salesman starts hyping up the Panasonic telling me how it’s a much better TV, better reviews, blah blah blah. So now I’m stuck I’ve got it narrowed down to 2 televisions but I don’t know much about the features or specs so I want to get some input before I buy. The 2 TV’s are

LG 42" Plasma HDTV (42PC5D) ---- (1,049.00)

In our family room, I ran wires for a 5.1 surround sound system. I also ran speaker wires from the component location to the kitchen as well as out to the back-yard. I'm ready to buy my system, but not sure how I'm going to get music to all these locations.

My preference would be to get a decent 5.1 HTIB system. (This is not the home theater, just a family room next to the kitchen where we watch the news and where the kids watch their DVD's while mom/dad are in the kitchen). I want to be able to play the sound in the kitchen or in the back-yard as well. Do I have to find a HTIB with a "zone 2" speaker setup? Can I use an A/B speaker switch with a regular 5.1 system?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well.

I can't plug the sync cord directly into my camera, or it will fry the internal components of the Canon, which is not what I want. I can't find any information about it online, so I'm asking here. The strobe says it is a "Venca strobe" "VS 250 (117v)". It was distributed by "Venca Sales International Inc" with a NJ address and phone number that no longer exist.

I have a canon sure shot 150u camera that has been working fine (clear lens, nice pictures, good focus) I left it in my car for the past two days in the glove compartment and now the lens is foggy and I cant see unless I zoom all the way. It has been humid and I'm wondering if there could be moisture in it. I've tried using a q tip and cleaning all of the lens and eye parts but it didnt work. What can I do to fix it? I dropped my casio exlim last weke and a huge chunk of the screen fell off, to get the screen replaced is 300 dollars, which is more then i paid for the camera. There is only like a think borderof the screen left. When i say screen i mean the bard part that protects the soft screen, Is there something i can like put on top of my soft screen just to protectit, like a peice of pexi glass or somehthing?? please help

We have a coworker who listens to music throughout our shift. No problem, it helps ease the boredom. Thing is, his headphones are awful and so is his hearing -- I can actually hear HIS music over my own and we're nearly 10 feet apart!

Rather than launch an unpleasant confrontation, we've decided to give him a better set of headphones that won't include all the noise. :) I'm looking for suggestions on a decent headset, lower in price, that can keep the sound going to his ears but not the rest of the room. Any suggestions?

Whenever my parents plug a landline phone in, we hear static. It happens to the cordless phones too. It's this loud, constant sound. We tried to call my cell phone, but the call didn't go through. We tried other landline phones we have, and those have static too. We contacted our phone company, at&t, and they said they couldn't detect any problems and to unplug the phones for 10 minutes. Well, that didn't work, and they're not being helpful at all. It can't be the result of a thunderstorm because it started a week ago and it's been extremely dry, except for today... Is someone tapping into our phone line or something? We replaced the battery in the cordless phone and that didn't work.

We sprayed our TV screev with windex and some dripped down onto the button pannel, all of the sudden the volume went up to 64 (the highest setting.) We finally got the volume down, but none of the buttons except the power button works properly now. Our DVD won't open, we can't get a video tape out of the VCR part, almost all of the buttons make the little volume bar come up on the screen, and if you hold the DVD/open/close button it will make the volume go up, but the volume only stays there for a few seconds then it goes down all the way on it's own. What do we do to fix this???? How do we vet our video tape out?? Thanks for the help!

iam raged about this. when i bought ps3 i didnt care about how much it cost, i just wanted the best system. i found out three sixty is almost number one and ps3 is worse than the wii. i want a punch the ps3 producers. know i am stuck with it the number three ps3. everything on ps3 makes me mad like the sports games which are the only ones i got have a better frame rate on the three sixty, and are better online. ps3 is more powerful yet its graphics or fram rate makes the game look worse on the ps3. i dont care if its free its dumb than the three sixty i would pay for xbox live. i dont buy lot of games but whatever i buy i want it to be the best. what you think?

I've just been given an ipod as a gift, and have tonnes of songs on casette tapes that I'd like to 'move' if possible onto my ipod. I don't know the titles of some of the songs, so can't look them up on the internet. I know how to get songs off CDs onto an ipod, but not casettes. Can anyone advise?
