Is there any way I can break my TV or make it seem to not work without doing anything physical (or noticeably physical)?

I have a 36" Panasonic SDTV if that matters.

That depends on how smart the person is that you are trying to fool.

Three approaches:
1. Look at the TV's menu system and see if you can set the input signal to an input that isn't being used.

2. Cut off the signals going to the TV. For example, if the signal is coming through RF coax, substitute a feed cable with the center connector clipped off at one end

3. Cut off the power. Buy a cheap power strip, have one of the outlets disabled (by someone who knows enough to do this without shorting it out or electrocuting themselves). Plug the TV into the disabled socket.
