Okay so pretty much you have two options to keep it around $200.

1) Get a film SLR camera like the N80 and have the pictures developed to a CD. You'll miss one advantage of digital the LCD screen providing instant feedback.

2) Get a used digital SLR. You'll have to really shop to keep it around $200. The best I can find from a reliable place is $379 at keh.com:

You might be able to find a body and lens on eBay for around $300, but I don't know what your chances are of getting a camera in good condition.

Pretty much in that price point, your only option would be the 6.3 megapixel Canon Digital Rebel (the original Digital Rebel). It's competitor, the Nikon D50, was a better camera and still commands a price premium for used cameras.

I definitely recommend a digital SLR, so that you'll be happier in the long run. Otherwise, you'll waste your money on a point and shoot camera and then spend *more* money later to get an SLR. You might as well do it right to begin with.

Look for used SLR's or DSLR's. I recently got a used Nikon D50 for around $380 and I've seen D70 and D100 models for similar prices. Check your local Craigslist for people selling off their older digital cameras as they upgrade.

The advantage of these used Nikons is the compatibility with so many older lenses.

There's a ton of autofocus and manual focus Nikon lenses out there, and if you look, you'll find a deal.

Here are some pictures I took with that $380 Nikon D50 and an $80 Nikon 75-300mm zoom lens that I found locally on Craigslist. These shots were taken from the 56th row across the stadium, using ISO ratings from 400-1600, cropped, and reduced in size before uploading. THAT's what you can do with older, "outdated" equipment!

You could get a point & shoot, but I think your interests definitely lie with a DSLR.

I hope this is helpful for you. Please ask, if you have any other questions.

Don't waste your money on a cheap point and shoot. Even if it looks like it's got a big lens, chances are that you will spend more time adjusting settings than taking photos. Save your money and get a decent dSLR. The entry level Nikons are getting less expensive by the minute and used ones are even less. Look into a used D70. I got mine for $400 with a 18-55mm lens.
