35Mhz is the designated frequency for radio controlled model aircraft, whether they be fixed or rotary wing. 40Mhz is solely to be used by radio controlled vehicles, whilst 27Mhz can be used for both purposes. 2.4Ghz is now available for all radio controlled vehicles and does not require frequency crystals. These frequencies are also used in Europe as well as other countries in the restof the world except the USA. 72Mhz is an American frequency and is against UK law to use this frequency in the UK. Mode 1 and mode 2 is the terminology regarding the position of the throttle control on the transmitter, mode 1 is throttle right and mode 2 is throttle left.

You are right MHz is 1,000,000 cycles per second

Both frequencies are classed as VHF (Very High Frequency)

72 MHz has a wavelength of 4.16m
35 MHz has a wavelength of 8.56m

72 MHz frequency falls in TV Band 1 (channel 4)

Don't know what 35MHz is used for.
