Consumer Electronics - 22 July 2006

I just got a 600 (off eBay) after upgrading from a 300. With the 300, I was limited to using VeriChat, a program that requires a yearly subscription of $25 to use. Now that I have a 600, there must be other programs that are free/purchasable with a one time cost. Does anybody know of a good IM program that doesn't require a subscription?

Also, for those of you who used to have VeriChat and have switched to something else, please respond. For those of you who had VeriChat, got something else, and went back to VeriChat, please respond, too.

I have some old SONY speakers that just have the wires. I wan't to connect them to the headphones jack on my TV (similar to a computer speakers port) Is it possible to just split some other kind of headphones cord or something and connect them that way or do I HAVE to get some kind of console?

If my tv, stereo, appliance is off or not in use but it is connected to the wall. Is it wasting electricity? Should i Just unplug it all together?

The sales person that I contacted replied asking me for my shipping address so that she can send me payment instructions. When I replied asking her for more information about her organization she gave me the email of a recent customer who I emailed. He said that he ordered 5 kits from them and that he just decided to take a risk sending Money Gram to the organization, which is basically cash. He said that after his first shipment arrived quickly and as promised he ordered more kits. He agreed to answer emails because they offered him a 5% discount in exchange.

Personally I don't think this is worth the risk. Sending cash and hoping that they send back the camera? No thanks. I'll just try to find my D200 somewhere else.

If anyone has more info please share.

I'm looking for some sites so I can download ringtones for my cell phone. I have downloaded right from the internet on my cellphone but the price wasn't cheap. So if someone could please post some websites that will allow me to download ringtones for my samsung cell phone (that is with aliant) I would highly appreciate it. Small living room/home theatre. Will mostly be used for movies (HD-DVD once the price declines). Some daylight viewing of TV, later HDTV. Some PC monitor use. These three models picked in part for size...must fit space 54" x 30". Prefer non-reflective surfaces. Also, do not need speakers as I'll have surround.
