Actually, yes, they are working on a pet expansion pack. Gamespot has information about it and even has stuff from E3 that shows the sims with pets. Here is the site that has the video that EA had at E3

Yes. To get the whining, annoying BBSers at the official site to shut up, they have a pets expansion pack to be released sometime in October.

As I remember, pets were extremely annoying in Sims 1
Maybe they can improve upon that. Rather than having something walk around your house crapping everywhere, you could teach it tricks over time?
