I'd give DVD 10-15 more years as it is now the industry standard and practical and cost effective. If the discs get too small they will just get lost all the time so a physically smaller format is not essentially practical and DVD quality image is still about the best a normal sized TV will ever need.
Before DVD is replaced super definition TV's and huge widescreen will have to become the standard home package for manufacturers to find an alternative format profitable.

It wont be long at all, with hdd camcorders being pre-released, it wouldnt be a surprize a hdd will be some how brought forward to replace dvds, internet access via telly has so far been successful, downloading films through telly means and saving them on a hard drive, will seem more appealing then having a unattractive dvd rack besides their telly.

The battle is on between two new formats. HD DVD and Blueray.
Think back to the vhs betamax duel of yesteryear.
