My old computer had Windows XP and Microsoft Works which I used almost everyday. But I just got a new computer with Windows Vista and I can't seem to find Microsoft Works.

Does anyone know if there's another program on here which will allow me to write letters, print shipping labels and print business & postcards?

I'm looking, but I don't see anything.

Suggestions would be great too!

Thanks.

Does anyone know a photoshop program where I can create pictures like this:

http://i23.tinypic.com/2mmtj6e.jpg
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=10x6m2b&s=2

I mean a picture that's black and white with a spot of color.. I don't want to buy anything, so I'd rather a free program, or a free trial of a program that has this feature.

I just recently installed windows XP and noticed in disk clean-up that the back up files for my previous operation system which is windows 98 is 300MB. That is alot of space that's taken up and no wonder my computer is so slow. I have no reason to return to windows 98 operating system. windows xp works fine! Can I just clean up those back-up files for windows 98 or will it affect my computer in a bad way like delete things i currently need including microsoft word that was on windows 98 but stayed after windows xp was installed. Can someone help me?
Thanks so much!

I have MS Vista Home Premium and I am experiencing a problem with the display not going to power save mode or screen saver mode for non-administrator accounts. Basically if I login and logout, the screen will power down after a few minutes but if my son's account does the login and logout, the screen will remain on. I have checked the power options in the control panel but I don't see any options that seem applicable (especially based on user roles).

Additional details:
OS: MS Vista Home Premium
Hardware: Lenova 3000 J115 (tower and 19" LCD bundle)

I have two of these and only one exhibits the problem. Any suggestions (other than downgrading to XP)?

Thanks.

Due to a virus I had to reinstall programs but now I cannot read my documents. When I try to open them all they show nothing but squares and other symbols and a box pops up saying I need a converter. I have no idea what version of word I had originally, I got my computer in Fall 2005 and it came with Windows XP. After the virus windows xp was reintalled, the version of word it says I have now is 2002, and I have installed microsoft works 2005 also, and my doc.s wont open with either one. Can anyone tell me what converter I need or how to fix this problem? These documents are extremely valuable to me personally and I unfortunately have no other copies - which I know was a stupid move on my part. I am hoping I haven't lost them forever. Please help me!

if people have already installed the old software. Can I install it on my computer.
I'm presently using OS 9.2 but need to finally upgrade to OS 10.X. I don't really want to upgrade to the newest version (5 year old computer), but figure that there's a lot of older OS CDs lying around as people upgrade. Where can I get these, and can I use them? Please don't tell me to get a new computer. That's not a possibility.

There is an article in a Maximum PC magazine that i am trying to set up, but there is an inconsistency. I want to be able to take my computer out of standby mode by wiggling my mouse. It tells me the following "Go to control panel, click system, and then device manager, and then locate the entry for your mouse in this list; right click it and choose properties. Click the power management tab and select " allow this device to bring the computer out of standby"" That is all fine and good, but when i click on the properties there is no power management tab. Only General, Driver, and Details. Please help. How do i set it so my mouse allows my computer to come out of standby?

I have just installed Norton Internet security, and lone behold my laptop does not seem to be able to handle it.

When I first start up the computer does at least 5 minutes of processing before I can do anything. We then have a short period of reasonable operation. And then, after half an hour, the machine gets so hot and bothered doing pretty everyday tasks that it takes ages to do anything.

I know I should get a better computer, but that is not an option. The PC is not that old and to be honest there's no real reason why the software and hardware should really have a problem.

Anyway the question is - is there anything I can do to get the best performance short of uninstalling Norton? And is there any way to disable Norton temporarily? And could there be lots of other more useless programs working in the background that I don't know about? If so how do I sort them out? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

I downloaded the iso from Ubuntu. When I burnt it to a CD and boot the PC with the CD, the CD automatically store a copy of Linux to my PC.

However, when I burnt the images of the 6 isos of Linux from Redhat to a CD and tried to installed them, the PC cannot read the CDs and cannot load anything from them.

What should I do? Thanks.

Hello,
I recently purchased Adobe Flash 9 (CS3) and discovered that it requires Windows XP with Service Pack 2. (Yes, I realize it will also work with Apple's OSX, but I'm not a Mac user). I am currently using Windows 2000 Professional, SP4. I have access to Windows XP Pro SP2 and Vista (though I think I need to purchase a new computer if I plan on running Vista), but I'm just perplexed as to why I need to upgrade? What does WinXP provide that Win2K doesn't (in terms of Flash requirements). I feel like they're just adding arbitrary requirements. Any comments?
