Software - October 2007

I keep getting this message when I try to install:

"A system reboot was requested by a previous software installation (e.g. a Windows update). Please reboot your computer to resume the installation of Nero 8."

I tried to uninstall Nero 7, run the Clean Tool, and install Nero 8 but this does not work.

I have tried deleting the values in the registry through "regedit": find Key / HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControl... Manager / Value: "PendingFileRenameOperations" as recommended by Eric T but this is not working either.

I don't understand what is not working, does anyone have any other suggestions or am I overlooking something that would block installation?

Any help and info is very much appreciated! :)

I basically have 2 problems.

1st the scroll wheel on my mouse won’t work anymore. It worked fine yesterday and this is a new problem. 2nd Internet Explorer isn’t working properly. I have a cable modem and pages load slowly, Netscape and Firefox are also installed, they behave normally. My wife prefers internet explorer and that is where we have all out favorites saved.

I use a licensed copy of Norton antivirus 2004, Norton has found nothing wrong. The subscription doesn't expire until the end of the month. Any help given is greatly appreciated.

new hp system. It says files ready to burn and sometimes lets me put in a dvd and other times keeps saying to put in a disk, but either way I can't get it to work? Anyone? Thanks!

Hey,
I am rewritting my paper notes on Word. On Excel, I am listing all my definitions. I don't want my defintions on Word so that I can practice learnign them.
I was wondering if their is a way for me to create an Excel formula so that when a click the word on Word, the definiton from Excel shows up under it.

Every once in a while, an alert window will pop up like a JavaScript confirmation box. It says that the script running "on this page" might cause my computer to run slowly and do I want to continue running the script.

Thing is - I don't have any web browsers open. There are three other accounts on my computer, only one is logged-in but that other account doesn't have any web browsers open either.

I'm not running an active desktop or anything which runs scripting as far as I know. CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't show any programs using more than 2% at a time, and I know all the programs which are running.

This started about a month ago, maybe a bit longer. The new software I've installed is:

OpenOffice
Yahoo Widgets
Yahoo Messenger (which is totally shut down when i'm not using it)

Any ideas? Could it be a trojan? I'm running Norton Internet Security 2007 with the latest updates and they haven't fouind a thing. Could it be spyware? Adware?

Please help! I am a new Vista user and am working on updating my resume, currently I have my resume on one and half pages and I need it to fit to one page (not just when printed, but on the actual document). I know there is a way to do this on MS Word 2003, but I haven't been able to figure it out on Vista. Thank you!

I have used Abiword for the last two years. It is freeware, and I like it. However, when I share files with friends, they are not able to read them with Word.
Is there freeware that I can use, such that it can be easily viewed in Word?
I hate having to pay for Microsoft when I can get freeware that is just as good!

i recently put my messenger to save my username, know everytime i put my computer on, on my windows messenger all i hav to do is click my name and it signs in, but ive got siblings hu come on the computer, an ive tried everything to sign out but it wont work, and its annoying becus they can come on the computer an jus click my name an talk to msn contacts. Going for a job interview. I was told that I need to prepare a 5 minute presentation. They did not say what kind of presentation, just that it had to be 5 minutes on the services offered by the Ga. Department Of Labor. I need help. Is someone willing to prepare a powerpoint presentation for me. The Ga. Ok, I'm trying to watch an online tv program on my windows media player (http://www.byutv.org/streaming/) and whenever I try to watch something the people talk rrreeeaaalllllyyy slow. It's my Media Player not the chanell, I know that, but I can't figure out how to fix it. Also on my link to watch it it says "limitted connecting". It's said that for about sixth monthes now. The first few it wouldn't connect me through period, now It'll connect me, but the people just talk super slow. Any ideas anyone on how to fix this?

If i have only one C: drive partitioned. I install wndows on my pc and then take a copy of everything under C: using copy-paste in another machine. Can I later bring back my pc to this orginal condition by deleting all files and and copying the files from my backup.

I have downloaded a movie, and its not playing.......
i tried using DivX player and it says "no video file"
i tried using VLC and the time bar moves but no picture and no sound?
i have also tryed hyplay and it sais "no codec found on system"
I can play all other files no problem.. i am stummped

please help me!

I am trying to convert files from AVI and Windows Movie, to DVD format before burning them.
The converter I am using is fine, however it is converting them from 1 file (AVI/Movie) into 3 files (DVD).

Obviously I can't burn them to disk this way...

So do I shrink the original file before converting, or is there a program which will do everything, convert, shrink and burn?

Well, the last time I saw it, was three weeks past.

Usually my LimeWire downloads around 20-40 KB perFILE no MATTER how many files I am downloading in it...but now it can only download 27 KB MAX...if I distribute it to 5 files, then the download count would be divided by five...

What's going on? Or was the download before just a fluke? And the real limewire download is like this?...can anybody tell me what to do to get that speed back? And can I get more than 8 hosts to download for each file? Cause even when there's 50 hosts, it says that it's only downloading from 8 hosts only...

Oh yeah, my internet's bandwidth is said to be 384 KB...anybody can help?

I'm thinking of going to upgrade my computer to Windows Vista, the only thing is that i have Windows Xp Professional and one of my Hard Drive setup is a Dynamic Hard Drive, If i upgraded to Vista Home Premium will my hard drive still be there or will it not show up.. b.c i read that only vista enterprise and ultimate supports dynamic hard drive.
