In Word, just click on the ruler to insert tabs in your document.

If you mean something else, you will need to give further explanation.

By default, tabs are set every half inch or 1.27 cm, just use the tab key to move to them. If you want different tab settings, you could use the ruler bar as someone has suggested, but that is not really stable so up to Format, Tabs, your cursor will be flashing in a box where you can put your new tab settings. However, going back to the ruler bar, if you need decimal tabs so that figures line up, click on the L left side of the ruler bar, and this will scroll you through L, R, C and decimal.
