Hey,
I am rewritting my paper notes on Word. On Excel, I am listing all my definitions. I don't want my defintions on Word so that I can practice learnign them.
I was wondering if their is a way for me to create an Excel formula so that when a click the word on Word, the definiton from Excel shows up under it.
Thank

You can just make an outline in Word with the words as level 2 and the definitions as level 3. Then when in outline view you can select how many levels to show (for all or for any individual word).

Another way would be to have your words in Excel with the definitions. Past the words into Word as links. Then when you double click on a word, Excel will open at that word.

Excel is great for a lot of things, but I think you are looking for a complex solution where an easy one exists. What I would do is use Word as you are, but put an endnote next to the word. In the endnote (which will be at the end of the document, so you won't see it near the word or even on the same page as with a footnote) you will type the definition.

Now, when you see the word and want to know the definition, just hover the mouse over the endnote marker next to the word (it will look like a reference to a footnote). A little textbox will pop up with the definition in it.

I would recommend insering a hyperlink to your Excel file or putting your definitions at the end of your Word file and adding a hyperlink to the definition on the last page or two of the Word document where you would put your definitions.

Either or would work. I'd recommend putting the definitions at the end of your word document that way you can go to the exact definition and not just to the Excel file that contains the definitions.
