I just recently installed windows XP and noticed in disk clean-up that the back up files for my previous operation system which is windows 98 is 300MB. That is alot of space that's taken up and no wonder my computer is so slow. I have no reason to return to windows 98 operating system. windows xp works fine! Can I just clean up those back-up files for windows 98 or will it affect my computer in a bad way like delete things i currently need including microsoft word that was on windows 98 but stayed after windows xp was installed. Can someone help me?
Thanks so much!

The 300M would not slow your XP operation down. The slow down may cause by the new operating system. XP will require bigger RAM to perform the same speed as Window 98, and it run more background operation. The XP has it own file system that the backup is no longer need to be there.

That 300MB doesnt slow you down at all, what you have is most likely an old machine thats not spec up enough to run Windows XP, you should be looking at upgrading the memory/processor instead
