I read in some websites that spywares are annoying and “static” while viruses tend to disseminate and “dynamic” in your PC.

Is it true that antivirus makers “create” viruses/virii for the purpose of buying their programs?

Do I need a firewall? I am using a version of Xandros for reference. Its the one on the eee pc. And how do firewalls work. I can't get a straight answer. One person says its like running windows without a firewall, another says its more secure then vista, another says Linux is a firewall itself, another says its highly vulnerable. So what is it and how does it work? I am good at XP and understand it well, but Linux is so confusing cause it seems no one else knows exactly what it is.

So, How secure is it and what firewall do I need if I need one?

Even though viruses and spyware don't really effect Linux yet, I like being prepared.

How do you completely and fully reomove, totally, 100% get rid off something. Example, I down loaded a mirco-soft add-on and didn't think I liked it and removed it through add and remove. After researching similar google and yahoo programs decided it was good. When I reloaded it, the download box it already exsists and it was still there and still had the work that I did previously on it. I repeated the remove and it repeated the already exsists. Worried that some of my vital info was never removed, such as ss# or credit card #s or old passwords. Can I 100% remove this stuff somehow?

On my relatively new Dell PC, www.sundayriver.com or www.sugarloaf.com come up as blank screens and say "DONE" at the bottom of the browsers. i usually use Firefox 2.0.0.11 but have gotten the same result with a recent version of stupid Internet Explorer. I suspect that "CA" security software is causing a problem. I know the sites are not down in that I have successfully tried the websites from other computers. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
