Downloading anything on the internet is LEGAL as long as what you are downloading is LEGAL -- don't be downloading copyrighted material (software, music), illegal material (kiddy porn, etc) and you'll be fine.

Everything on the internet is traceable.

in today's day and age, everything is traceble... but do not worry about it... the chances of you getting caught are super slim (if you keep your anti virus and anti spyware scanners running weekly. those were built to basically trace people's information) since there are so many people doing it.

technically watching p2p is illegal and downloading torrent are illegal as well if utilized fully i guess... but honestly who cares?

hehe well if you download film with torrent is illegal, because you are downloading without payment. U know that you have to pay to see the movie. If you go to the cinema or to video store you pay for it. If you download you only pay to the Internet provider your Internet connection.
And yes it is traceable, but don't worry.
