I agree that norton products have been bloated in the past but since 2007 they have improved a lot.
NIS2007/NIS2008 are great they scan a lot faster and use very little resources.
The detection is great and it detects almost everything.
I used to use nod32 but switched to nis2007 and i have stuck to it.
The firewall component in norton is far superior to that is eset smart security.
My final recommendation stick to norton .
All this coming from someone who used to hate norton

No, because if you are using IE 7 you will be installing Yahoo's version of Nortons. And you know my feelings about Nortons.
I answer so many questions that I apologize if I repeat myself. I use what the Govt Of China uses. You pay only a one time fee of $29.99 for life, that includes daily auto. updates and all new versions. The software is light years ahead of any known antivirus. (I am a beta tester of antivirus/antispyware program). This program has technology that is light years ahead of any other known antivirus program, to protect your Internet. Example, if I open any webpage and the is an hidden embedded trojan or spyware this program will kill the virus in realtime. (I don't have to run my scanner, because the virus is killed in real time from the infected webpage.).
I have never one virus in over ten years with this program, that went into my system. As I am required by law to keep my pc 100% clean, due to the privacy in my work.
You can download Twister Trojan Antivirus for evaluation of thirty days with a key proveded for the evaluation. After the thirty days you will have to pay the one time fee for life of $29.99. (Tell me one antivirus company that offers a one time purchase fee for life). Plus excellent support direct from the engineers who writes the program.
All I can say is give the program a try and see what you think. Plus there are far to many other features to tell you that come with this program.

it is difficult to tell you see, all the antivirus providers use very similar coding and identity programs.
the best in my own opinion willbe the one that updates its virus defination the earliest, which means as soon as avirus is about they are blocked, that takes a lot of hardwork, it does also seem that many of these antivirus companies are sharing there info so they can have a unified front against virus writers.
let's give good old norton some kudos, they were one of the early starters when we all knew almost nothing about the cyber underworld!!!

Worse. Because besides a bloated, ineffective anti-virus, you get a bloated, ineffective firewall too. Use Eset Smart Security for your security suite. Do a little research into Eset and NOD32, you'll find out it is universally accepted as the best by those who know (except the Kaspersky fanboys).

I agree with graham m.
I have heard of people having problems with trend micro and others alike. nod 32 is good also.
Norton is a system hog and will slow your pc right down. It also has a crap firewall.
I use avg and it has found problems that all the other big brand virus killers do not pick up.
For spyware you cannot beat spyware doctor, It's simply the best.
With this program you also get a free anti-virus program that works perfectly with avg and does not conflict at all.
between the two my pc flies and runs as smooth as.
I also use ashampoo firewall as it is thorough and very simple to use.
With this firewall I found that I never have to port forward at all anymore.
all of these programs run very light and all are free except spyware doctor which is definately worth it's money.
You can get free starter editions of spyware doctor in the pc mags every now and again that are perfectly acceptable...
Also ashampoo firewall has a cleaning tool that is very effective plus a start up tuner that is easy to use.
But with spyware doctor you have to be careful with the cookies that it deletes as you can wipe all your site sign in association cookies very easily.
you just have to take your time and watch what you are doing.

Use AVG and zone alarm. They work perfectly together and I have never had a problem with them.
They are both free too.
