ok, just so you know... my techee/techy (whatever) friends have told me that AVG and Avast are made by the same company, and have the same everything. there is no difference (that i know of... not for sure) between AVG and Avast. now i do know that avast is the best anti-virus program out there. it tops Norton, McAfee, and all other softwares out there that people pay lots of money for... and those really dont even have a REAL scanner that scans files as they are being downloaded, or tells you if websites contain spyware/trojans/and things like that. now, you haven't told us whether you have windows or a mac os. so i am assuming that you have a windows, since it is a lot more popular... and cheaper. there are two problems i have with windows computer. first, (this is a big reason you should look at), windows is a self-executable (i think thats the spelling... correct me if i'm wrong) OS, which is not a favorite of mine. for people who aren't big into computer terms, what this means is that the computer will download applications, like windows updates and all, without you knowing... which can be good in the fact that you dont have to mess with it. the downsides are that you dont know when an update is installed... therefore you might not know the possible differences in the new programs/updates/whatever is downloaded, from your old software. this kind of states the known fact that each new OS that microsoft releases, needs you to be taught how to use the whole damn thing again! which really sucks. now, another downside to be a self-executable software is that litterally almost any program, whether third party, or well known company programs, have the right to just install nearly anything they please on your computer. not a good thing considering that this is the way you are VERY PRONE to viruses. when a software you have been "given" basically pops up, or something like that, you dont know what the files are, sometimes where they are, and really what they're for until you open them... which is how the viruses are released. that is if there is one. also, there's viruses that just download themselves onto your computer just from you being hooked onto the internet, or even logging onto a web page that could be like a news reporting site. any link you click on could start a virus download. this is not a good thing, and knowing that a lot of these paid anti-virus protection softwares dont have a good "on access" scanner, means running at all times, it wont protect you very well... if even. therefore, when it has thoroughly infected your computer, you're screwed... as the hacker was probly smart enough to make it so you cant make your computer function at all, or even just properly.

now if you have a mac computer... dont worry about any viruses getting onto your computer. SERIOUSLY!!!! there is only one software to remove any spyware, etc and its free... i guess you cant beat that right? but, truth be told, there hasn't been a virus made for any mac in the last 3+ years, therefore making you pretty much immune to any viruse(s). the only re3ason the creator made it was to "help you sleep at night" and yes those are his exact words (i believe). so, if your wondering why this is... its because macs are unix based... meaning you must type in your admin password/passskey everytime something is installed onto your computer. meaning you know exactly what is going on there at all times. no one has been able to override this, so there isn't any made. also the lack of popularity macs have due to their higher prices makes a difference in what type of computer a hacker wants to infect. since most people want the cheapest and most efficient computer they can get their hands on, they buy windows. macs are usually around twice the price for what you would get in a windows computer. and most people want gaming (younger generations), which is best suited for windows since macs are for media editing and internet use. although apple is trying to get a hold of the gaming industry.

so, if you want virus protection for windows, i would say avast or AVG... and for mac, dont worry about it until a virus has been announced, which will most likely be years

Comodo with Avira or NOD32.
Eh, if you like, you can look at all my anti virus research here..

(I had to [ ] because of the 999 error, which they ban websites from using in posts..
And firewall leaks (a bit outdated because Comodo is V3, but Comodo will pass)
