When i opened a file in my laptop, i found that what was supposed to be a WORD DOCUMENT has turned out to be a virus! Its file ending changed from .doc to .scr. When i tried to open it, AVG anti virus system responded and detected a threat. Unfortunately, my laptop has no internet connection, so my norton, AVG, and clamwin anti-virus systems were totally disabled. Then, my files were continuously detected with virus, almost all of my files! Now, what would I do? How could I remove this virus and do my files will not be affected? I hope you can help me... :(

I've been reading about ARP poisoning and how easy is to sniff a LAN.
All this possible thanks for the null security in the ARP protocol.

So i see ARP is in the data link layer ...

Now i would like to know... what "prevents" from doing the same thing between a client and a server on the internet instead of a client and a server in a LAN?
TCP?
I know IP spoofing exists for this purpose. But im confused about the protocols... and transmission of packets i guess.
In a lan you also intercept those TCP packets with a sniffer. So what is the "secure" thing that will not allow someone to just turn on a sniffer pointing to a client machine somewhere on the internet, to capture the packets going between this client and the server..? It is the TCP handshake (SYN-ACK) what makes the difference to not let easily exploit this as you do with ARP?

Im lost.

Thanks

I have tried deleting it several times and it keeps coming back.
McAfee Virus Scan hasn't helped and neither has Ad-Aware. Does anyone know if there's a way to block it?
Thank You!

The pack say it will protect from getting a virus and also clear any existing virus's. Why do I get pop-up's from companies wanting me to buy their product and telling me my computer has a virus? How do they know my computer has a virus, maybe they put it there because their information seems so exact.

DirectNetAdvertising keeps reappearing on my computer and every time I remove it using AVG, it tells me that by deleting the file I could be breaking an agreement with some bundled software I've downloaded. Does anyone know specifically which software it is that requires the DirectNetAdvertising adware or malware?
