A friend of mine was telling me that you can set your virtual memory in a way that it acts like actual system ram, or "dedicating a certain amount of virtual memory to hard drive space acting as system ram."

He said that if you go too high or too low with the numbers, it may affect PC performance in a bad way. I've usually let the PC handle the VM automatically, but if anyone one has dedicated a certain amount of VM to hard drive space, i'd be glad to know where about to set it at, so I can get better performance.

All my devices that used to be plug and play, now only take me to the "found hardware wizard", which can never find the correct drivers. I'm using Windows XP, and these very same devices used to work just fine. Is there anything that I can do, short of re-formatting my hard drive? Please help, cuz I need to use my flash drive and media reader soon!

I am unable to play DVDs. I receive the message "Playback failed due to a problem with the video subsystem. Lowering your screen resolution or color depth may fix the problem." This problem is with all the Players.I aldready restored my PC once and before restoration I would be able to watch DVDs too.

These are the details:-

RAM : 1024MB (1GB)
Hard Drive : 80GB
LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+R/RW drive with Double Layer support

I also tried VLC Player as many people said but that did'nt work. I hope you can help me in solving the problem.

The tray won't eject, but it has opened a little bit, but won't close or go any further on its own unless I push it. I haven't used it in a while, and have done nothing to cause it to not work...any ideas?

I have a western digital mybook essential 250GB external hard drive. I got it about a month ago... actually exactly a month ago. Well I have it plugged into my computer and everything but it keeps on shutting down and then booting up again. I was just wondering what's going on and if anyone else is experiencing this. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is the drive broken? Even the slightest help is appreciated. Thanks!

I have changed some bios settings and managed to get AGP card to work. But the pentium chip is only showing half its real value! I checked BIOS and it still shows true value. Only shows half at boot up and on system info once logged in.

System is ABIT VH6 II motherboard with Pentium 3 1000mhz, 256mb RAM, AGP card is 3d prophet geforce 256.

Can anyone help with BIOS settings as I may have missed something here.

Thanks in advance

I would like to transfer the contents of one computers hard drive to another computer easily, so as I can restore the original hard drive and not lose all music/movie/picture/school etc. files. Can just a USB cable between the 2 be used? An Ethernet cable? Or what is the easiest way to achieve what I am trying to do.

Can anyone explain the relationship between the FSB speed and the ram speed? I'm getting a motherboard with 1066MHz speed. The board supports 533, 667, 800 speeds of DDR2. I was wondering if the 800MHz ram would have a much better performance than the other two. Someone told me that the processor I'm getting (Core2Duo 1066MHz) runs as 266MHz x4 and the ram runs as 266 x2. He told me I would only need the 533MHz ram. Is this true? Any info on the subject is welcome. Thank you!

i clicked a link on yahoo. The link brought w/ it an ad popup, when i clicked the x button to close it, it opened repetively. I tried to keep up with it by closing as many asi could, but it just kept going. finnaly it basically locked up my computer so i turned it off and restarted it to fix it in safe mode.
i brought it to the screen in which i can select which mode i want to start the computer up. the problem was that either mode i selected (safe mode, normal mode, blah blah blah mode) it would hten began to act like it was working, but it would suddenly flash to a blue screen (so quick that u couldnt read it) and then it would start over. My computer was in a startup loop.
therefore, realizing my computer was unaccessible, i decided to hook the hard drive up to another computer and make a slave out of my infected hard drive. When i tried to access it safely through a host computer, it said it was inaccessible and there was an error reading the material or whatever. is it done for?

I have a low but decent pwr supply. I have lots of demands on it, I figure that it may cause lag. Kinda like a dimming light blub. I am very computer savvy and am aware of other factors that create lag. I am using a 400wt pwr supply, but I have everything hooked up to it...usb, awsome graphics card, high end digital monitor, loud speakers, etc. I push my computer to do a lot at one time, I want to push it further! I haven't overclocked my system yet nor do I care too. My concern is the computer, not my wall outlet.

I have a Dell XP laptop with a Intel 945GM 256mb graphics card and till recently all my video games used to work just fine. I used to play Flight Simulator 2004, Age of Empires 3 etc. without any problems. But just last week I upgraded my laptop to Vista and since then my games performance has gone horribly bad. In Flight Simulator for example, I can't get more than 1-2 fps. Age of Empires 3 actually says "You have a 32mb graphics card so game won't work, sorry" or something like that when I'm quite sure I have a 256mb graphics card! Some other game said the same thing. Anyone know why this is happening? Is there some problem in Vista that is causing my games not to "detect" my graphics card or something? Incidentally, the Aero thing on Vista works fine so I'm not sure what exactly is going on
