I have a western digital mybook essential 250GB external hard drive. I got it about a month ago... actually exactly a month ago. Well I have it plugged into my computer and everything but it keeps on shutting down and then booting up again. I was just wondering what's going on and if anyone else is experiencing this. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is the drive broken? Even the slightest help is appreciated. Thanks!

I own the exact same drive you do and it cycles on and off depending what you are doing on your computer. It actually don't really cycle ALL the way off just to a standby mode. Don't worry, it's normal. I use Norton Ghost to do my external drive package and Ghost works fine.

You should contact Western Digital and ask them about what to do about the drive and where to send it for repairs, or just go to a comp repair shop and get them to back the files up onto another drive. It probably will still be under warranty.
