problem: at first it started with my computer being really loud. the fan caused the noise. Then I installed windows vista (beta) and after that it all went down hill. My computer wouldn't boot up so i had to recover all of my files to disc and reinstall xp. my computer would continually lock up, and/or shut down on me. i formatted my hard drive several times and reinstalled xp, but this didn't fix it. Eventually when i'd reboot my comp would make a long beeeeeep sound and my monitor wouldn't come on. i would have to jigger with the video card for it to work. Also, when my comp was booting up, it would just stop booting. during all of this my fan was really loud. finally i decided to remove all components and reinstall them (thinking maybe that something was being shorted out, but mostly as a last ditch effort to fix this thing...shooting in the dark really) didn't work. In fact, my monitor won't come on at all any more. i'm thinking it may be my moboard or processor.Thoughts?

Hi I have a Radeon X1300PRO right now and bought it a year from today and it has ALWAYS sucked. Now I see on ATI.com they have a trade in program going on. Now I am wondering how much better is a Radeon X1650PRO 512MB card then this X1300PRO? Is it worth $179.99 to upgrade to it? Or whats the best PCI-E card you could buy for under $170 and would be very good and much much better then this crap Radeon X1300PRO. I would like to buy a upgrade off of ATI.com or Newegg.com (newegg is better) Please leave links. Thanks a lot everyone!

i have seen that if i defrag c: partition from the windows xp (fat32 file system) which is installed on c:, then its quite slow process. i have windows 98 SE (also on fat32) on d:. i want to ask is it safe to defrag c: from windows 98 (which boots from d:) and to defrag d: from windows xp (which boots from c:) in terms of boot sectors or any boot records etc

basically i am asking can i defrag two OSes from each other. and will it be safe? will it be faster than defraging partitions from their own OSes?

What makes 1 power supply better than others? How much money is a reasonable price. Also how can i figure out what brands are good. Also is a U.P.S. a good idea?

its a hp amd sepron which means its like pentium M.
a friend got it 4 me, and since i was at work i gave it to a hardware technician2 look at it. i pickd it up on monday, and till date (1yr later) i have not bin satisfied with the laptop... its like a Pentium 1 or at best pentium 2 pc.. it hangs 4 no reason, i got no heavy programs on it..infact the heaviest programs on it are microsoft access, and yahoo msgr.
4rm task manager, the processor usage is pretty low, at 30/40% at best, and the paging file (virtual ram) is ALWAYS way beyond the half way mark...at 350MB.. my RAM is 512 sd.
i mean, there should b no reason why it hangs at startup, hangs when u run 3 programs, hangs in d middle of notin.
i have used symantec, norton, sophos, avast, and i'm now windows defender 4rm microsoft, so there could not possibly b a virus or worm
i have also run hp diagnositc programs on it, still too too slow, clumsy, and hangs. my pentium 3 desktop is faster better, etc.
is that technic at fault

I had to install a new hard drive and copy all data from old to new. No problem. But now I've lost my USB. Computer just won't recognize my USB flash drive, and USB controllers are no longer listed on Device Manager. I've checked all connections and everything seems fine. I thought I might have lost the USB drivers (if any), but the computer can't even find the controllers. Any help will be appreciated.
