Why exactly are you upset, both companies make very good chips and have fairly decent prices. Anyway as one guy mentioned, there is VIA, but they make poor quality chips.

For general computing usage with x86 chips, only AMD and Intel.

However, there are a lot of embedded chips... ARM is the major one. There are many more ARM chips in your household electronics than either AMD or Intel. IBM, MIPS, Sun, Texas Instruments, Transmeta are some more major players in CPUs

those 2 manufactures has been in the market for a long time, so they have fairly advanced tech. there is no way other startup companies can compete with them without inventing some new technology. And people need funds, alot of money to hire researchers and spend many years developing the device.

There is this processor I never heard of but saw it while shoping at walmart. http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/processors/

It is going to be hard to find a motherboard for them because they really are not popular and not well known. Anyone use these procesors before and have a comment on them?

No, as far as desktop computing goes, there's only Intel and AMD. For server and embedded computing, there's quite a few more.
