I am worried that if i buy it with a hot new pc gaming rig that when DX10 comes out i will have to buy a whole new one. The card i am talking about is the nvidia 7900GS

No it will not be upgradeable, however you will not be totally out of luck. The new DX10 games will come with patches to allow them to work with DX9 cards, at least for the first year or two. Also, if you want to upgrade to DX10 later you will only need to replace the video card, not the whole computer.

When new games that use DirectX 10 come out, your old video card will not be technically obsolete. The game will not have the "DX10" graphical improvements, however.

The game will play, but it will use a different DirectX path. In Windows Vista, any game that uses anything below DX10 will use DX9L (the L, I believe will stand for legacy).

no only the newer ones can thoes that say DX10 ready liek the nvidia 7950or 8800 or the ati radeon x1900
