Laptops & Notebooks - May 2007

In January I managed to spill a glass of water onto the keyboard of my laptop. It's a Gateway and has no warranty. At first I shut it off and turned it back on. It was fine except a few keys weren't working and neither was the right mouse button. I turned it off again, and it would start up but all I had was a black screen. I gave it a while and went back to it later and then when you hit the power button it wouldn't turn on. The light on the monitor would turn on showing power but was still black, and for any power to be going to the laptop you had to hold down the power button... and even then, it wouldn't start up like before. All I could hear was the fan start up and then just keep doing the same thing over and over... like when you start up a car and it won't turn over. I've been computer-less for almost 5 months now. Could someone tell me what's wrong or where I should take it to have it repaired?? FYI... I live NOWHERE near a Best Buy or anything, haha.

I have 1 gig of RAM. Is this enough to atleast have the game on high settings? Not ultra high just high. And I dont turn on shadows in any game so this should clear some stuff up. I can't afford a RAM upgrade so I'm just wondering if my game will still look good and play well at the same time. Thanks in advance!

I have an ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 graphics card, and I could not upgrade this because it is built in the laptop and shares the RAM of the laptop, so upgrading RAM would make no difference either. Please help me as this is causing much anger when I am playing cs;s. FPS could at least be 60 I think. Thanks in advance.

I just went to Best Buy and got an external hard drive enclosure to put in a (laptop) hard-drive so that I can get the data off of it. The problem is, the hard drive does not connect to the enclosure. Can someone tell me if I got the wrong type, or if there's a cable missing or something?

In the instructions, it says to just connect the hard drive to the IDE connector on the circuit board, without cables.

I have a Dell Latitude c800, its about 5 or 6 years old , it runs on Windows XP. Don't know if anymore information is needed. I am a little computer illiterate, and I found out my Dell Latitude's hard drive needs to be replaced. I want to do this myself, the Dell manual online seems to be straightforward, but ....
1) How will I retrieve old files after replacing my old hard drive ?
2) Can I retrieve old files before replacing the hard drive
3)What kind of hard drive should I buy,lowest memory is okay


Honestly if I can get my old files I would gladly buy a new laptop, I have had lots of issues with this one. Thanks in advance for any assistance or suggestions.

Im curious about celeron m 440 as i am using one. it says its 1.8ghz. but when o boot my laptop a logo appears which says intel core inside.i bought my laptop early this year and ive read a lot of bad things about celeron. is celeron really bad? some say it can never play games. im sad to hear this, can anybody say a less biased assessment of this processor?

I use a Seagate external hard drive with my iBook G4. There are several folders on it, but there is one that I refer to often and have therefore placed in the "sidebar" of Finder.

Recently I turned off the Seagate for a long time (maybe 2 to 3 weeks) and I've just plugged it in again. Everything works normally...all the folders can be accessed, except for the folder in my Finder bar. When I try to access it, it tells me that the volume can't be found, although all the other folders work fine. The folder icon of that particular folder has also turned to the Network icon (that blue sphere within a square) and it's labelled as an Alias (0 KB).

What has happened? Have I lost all my data? How do I recover the folder?

I got an HP pavillion laptop and I got a wireless card for it. It's picking up a few connection networks but apparently none of them are suitable enough to connect with. Do I need to buy like a wireless modem or something to expand its signal?
