In January I managed to spill a glass of water onto the keyboard of my laptop. It's a Gateway and has no warranty. At first I shut it off and turned it back on. It was fine except a few keys weren't working and neither was the right mouse button. I turned it off again, and it would start up but all I had was a black screen. I gave it a while and went back to it later and then when you hit the power button it wouldn't turn on. The light on the monitor would turn on showing power but was still black, and for any power to be going to the laptop you had to hold down the power button... and even then, it wouldn't start up like before. All I could hear was the fan start up and then just keep doing the same thing over and over... like when you start up a car and it won't turn over. I've been computer-less for almost 5 months now. Could someone tell me what's wrong or where I should take it to have it repaired?? FYI... I live NOWHERE near a Best Buy or anything, haha.

First, take out the battery. Using 97% or higher alcohol you get near a pharmacy, let it soak in that for a bit. Take it out and open up as much of the laptop you are comfotable taking apart without breaking it. Let it air dry. Also, leaving it sit this long, and powering it afterwards may have screwed up the mainboard

Sorry, this usually "frys" the system board. If it doesn't immediately fry it, then it starts corroding all the parts and kills it soon after.

If this is a great laptop, it MIGHT be worth repairing, but I wouldn't do\ue to other problems that might still show up.

Thankfully, in 5 months, the prices of new pc's have continued to drop.
