I just bought a laptop to work on a thesis while I have free time at work. To my dismay, I can not pick up anyone's wireless connection and subscriptions are expensive. The average amount is $85.00. Are there any other options?

have a laptop Dell L400 and the old drive died. I bought a 60 GB HD (Seagate) and put it into my laptop along with the Windows XP (full version). I configured the BIOS so it boots from the CD drive. However, it will not boot from the CD-ROM drive.

Thus, I tried the floppy drive (note I needed to unhook the external cd-rom and plug the cable into the external floppy drive since my laptop has one slot for this type of cable connection) and I get to disc 6 and then I am asked if i want to install xp. I hit enter and it tells me it can not find the cd-rom drive.

Again, please note i am using the same cable for the external floppy drive and CD-ROM DRIVE. I then retried loading the floppies this time unplugging the floppy and plugging in the cd-rom drive after the completion of disc 6 and priot to hitting enter for Winndows Install. I got the same response; "No CD-Rom drive found"

I watch DVDs on my computer just off the computer screen, without connecting it to the tv. I'm thinking about ordering this DVD from New Zealand that's only in PAL format, and I wanna know if I'd be able to watch it on my Dell Inspiron without connecting it to the television.

I had my battery out of my laptop for a few months. When I put it back in it won't charge up when I plug in the laptop. The light goes on so I know it's "reading" it but it won't charge up (keeps displaying 0% but says it's charging). It's a Gateway 2 yr old laptop if that helps.

Thanks.

I got a laptop for Christmas and bought the Sims 2 Holiday Edition game, but it runs extremely slow. The screen even freezes up when I play the game. My laptop came with 18.6 GB and now has around 12. So I was wondering if a flash drive would help games run faster.

I have a laptop Dell L400 and the old drive died. I also had a bad
partition sector. I just bought a 60 GB HD (Seagate) and put it into
my laptop along with the Windows XP (full version). I configured the
BIOS so it boots from the CD drive. I can hear it spinning my external
CD-ROM drive, but my screen just shows a blinking cursor.

When I boot from the HD it predictably says no operating system.

What should I do ?

My laptop is about a year old, and one by one, the USB sockets have stopped working... I think that the wiring inside has come loose, basically, if they are wiggled up and down to much they stop working, as if a wire has a been pulled out.

Is this a common problem, and is it easy to repair?

My MacBook (I just got it this year) sometimes turns off by itself. The battery is full so I know it's not that. It's not all the time either, just every once in a while it will turn itself off. I'll try to restart it and it will do it all over again. It happened this morning and it kept turning off, it did it like 7 times in a row.

Does anyone else have this problem, or know what causes it? I did buy the extended warranty on it, so should I take it to an Apple Store so they can fix it or something?
