No you never have to pay extra as the bandwidth (connection speed) is shared.

If you are already using wireless - get a USB or PCMI adaptor & comfigure it with the correct access codes (usually printed on the bottom of your other kit - eg. SSID / MAC)

Alternatively, if you are wired, and want to stay that way - get an ethernet hub (4 or 5 port) for about £10 & a network cable (£5) - no configuring - just plug the cables into the hub...and away you go!

ps. Make sure - VERY sure that she has got up to date anti-virus software!! I can recommend 'zonelabs antivirus' - only £10 a year & it's faster, better & less memory hungrty than Norton or McAfee.

No, you shouldn't have to pay extra but you might need to buy some hardware.

Are you on dial up or broadband? If on dial up (and your daughter's new laptop has a modem), then you should be able to put your dial up settings onto the laptop and she can dial up when the phone isn't being used by your other computer or by people making phone calls.

If you're on broadband, then does your existing modem have a built-in router? If so, and your daughter's laptop has an ethernet port, then you should just be able to plug it in. If not, buy a router (perhaps the laptop supports wireless?) or just plug the modem out of your other computer and into the laptop (although it will quickly become tiresome having to chop and change like this).

Feel free to email me with any follow-up questions!

because the computer replaced into meant on your daughter and under no circumstances you and she would not choose any presents from her father, then why not wrap it up and provides you it to her for a xmas cutting-edge from you. i do not understand of any 17 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous, no matter if in or out of faculty that doesn't like to have her personal personal pc computing gadget. basically tell her the computer has to stay at residing house, considering she lacks the duty to preserve her issues. If it were me, each and every time I used that computing gadget, i'd experience accountable, understanding it extremely belongs to my daughter, even although she would not choose any presents from her dad. yet then that's basically me. possibly you received't have a difficulty with it.

No you dont have to pay extra this depends on how you are connected to the internet, for instantce if you have a wireless router and the laptop has a wireless lan you can connect without paying anything to anyone. It all depends how you are connected to the internet if its a normal modem then you can try connecting the laptop with the exisiting pc, but i would suggest you to go for the wireless option and purchase a wireless router.

It depends what equipment you already have. The laptop almost certainly will have wireless built in. In order to connect the laptop to the internet, you will probably need a wireless access point, or wireless modem. If the modem connects to the PC via USB, it will probably need replacing with a wireless broadband modem. They cost around £50.

There are alternative ways that may cost a little less, but the wireless modem gives you a lot more flexibilty (such as not needing any other machine on, or running wires).

Once you gt her online, you'll regret. I bought myself a laptop at the age of 18, and after that I spent most of my time on the internet. My family only saw me for dinner. I turned into an unsocial, non-sleeping, school-ignoring zombie because of myspace, livejournal amd Yahoo!answers.

If you already have the internet at home you need to contact your internet provider and ask them to suppy you with a wireless connection. This should be provided free of charge. If your home computer is more than a year old you will probably need to upgrade this to wirless which will cost about £20 and you can do yourself.

It depends on what kind of connection you have (DSL, Wireless, etc.,) and what company it comes through. You should ask the company you get your internet connection through. They might have to hook up another line in your house or simply flip a switch.
