I just bought a laptop to work on a thesis while I have free time at work. To my dismay, I can not pick up anyone's wireless connection and subscriptions are expensive. The average amount is $85.00. Are there any other options?

Ok the first post is a load of balogna just an FYI there is no software that can just get into a wireless network!!! You have to get a network key or be a master hacker at encryption!!! Umm you could plug into your internet at home using a router, or a wireless router. You can go with an express card which you can get from Cingular, Sprint etc. If your job is a computer desk job you can probably ask if you could use the wireless network that they have set up and they will give you the wireless key. Although this is probably not going to work because they are going to think that you are just goofing off and doing nothing at work. Your best bet is asking your work or getting a cheaper subscription.

You can subscribe to internet "Hot Spots" for a few dollars a month. Or if someone you know has a wireless connection, they can set up their computer as as access point for you. But don't do this without their permission, as it is illegal to simply connect to a connection that isn't authorized for you to use. Also, many coffee shops now offer free access to customers. In California, even some McDonalds have this.

Get A Cingular Mobile Broadband Card it's only $60 a month plus the one time card cost. It will work as long as Cingulars Cell phone service is available in your area.
