I think you just go buy a new usb port hub where it has like 3 or 4 usb ports on it. Thats If u still have one open Usb Port on ur computer. If u do then buy a usb hub for about 10 bucks at like best buy or circuit city or something and then plug it into the usb port and u will have three extra working usb ports and u can forget about the broken one.

Sadly, if it is outside of warranty you may find you have an expensive problem.....
The the sound of it, it is a very simple soldering job, but unless you really know what you are doing then my advice would be to not touch it.
Most PC repair places will advise a change of laptop motherboard and again this is very expensive, sometimes more than the laptop itself! Crazy but true!
Not a particularly common problem - can only remember one USB port failing myself

It may be possible to repair if it is a simple loose wire but if you open it yourself then you void any warranty you may have left on it. If you bought it from a local retailer I would call or take it to them and ask them. If you bought it over the internet I would suggest going to their site and looking for the Support on their page. Most computer sites have a support link and a lot of them have a live chat help desk.
Hope this helps.

Usualy laptops are hard to repair. If it is a wiring problem you'll have to solder the wires on the motherboard... The problem might be the USB controller... If the controller is dammaged, you can't do nothing about it.

You might be able to just solder it back onto the motherboard, but it might also be a problem that cannot be fixed. You will have to take the entire laptop apart to get to the USB ports on the motherboard to look.

If your laptop has a usable usb slot left you could use a hub as mentioned above, but I would recommend a PCMCIA card slot adapter link below has 4 X powererd USB2 slots for only £17.50

yes it is a common problem. It will require taking the laptop motherboard out and then some desoldering and resoldering replacment usb jacks best left to a professional due to the heat involved and static electricity.
