Laptops & Notebooks - September 2006

I already formatted my hard drive b/c I had a trojan. I also thought if I backed up most of my files maybe my computer would stop overheating because I was using 70 GB of an 80GB laptop. It continues to get overly hot and I haven't even installed my programs yet. Is there anyway to keep it from overheating or to cool it down? I've tried laptop coolers and all they do is make the computer get hotter - right now I have it sitting on top of an old weight scale that has a lot of space under it. But it sucks because I cannot even put my computer on my lap or on a table without it being on top of something. Please help.

It, at times, will also leave the screen completly black although I can see, at an angle, what I had on the screen. I checked to see if the automatic shut down scheduling was on, its not. Can anyone tell me what to do? Send it in to Apple? I have ran the disk aid and everything checked out. Help!

Do i really need to use avr when charging my laptop when off and power on AC mode? Provided i have an adaptor 100-240v input. Sometimes it sparks when i plug it in the outlet.

It is a Dell E1505 laptop. It has 1G of RAM, and a 60G hard drive. It also has the Core Duo. The VC is the ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 HyperMemory.

What games will this be able to play? The ones Im mainly worried about is America's Army and Guildwars series.
Id also like the kno the most powerful game this computer could do to. Thx

I put in a mini disc (half the size of a CD) into my CD/DVD drive in my Mac laptop, and now it won't eject. I guess it is too small for the computer system to sense it. Help! What do I do?

my laptop has recently been upgraded in RAM - (another memory card has been inserted) but after rebooting and plugging into the AC adapter, the screen displayed the message 'there is a missing or currupt file. windows....???/drivers. please insert the original windows startup disk'. i do not actually have the startup disk as computer was donated from a workplace. Windows will now not start and the screen remains black, Is there anything i can do to rectify this problem without having the original startup disk, and sending off to the manufacturer as am off to university at the end of week??

Hi, I am trying a choose a good laptop to buy. But I am having a problem choosing the right processor. I have seen a couple of names like Athlon 64, Athlon XP, Pentium 4M, Pentium M, Turino, Celeron, Sempron etc.

I don't know much about processors, so I have no idea which one of these are good. I am mostly going to use the laptop for internet access, and some gaming. And mobility is not an issue because I am going to have it plugged in most of the time. I just want a processor which is reliable, fast, and cheap.

I was told by people in the computer industry that purchasing a business laptop overa Home/Home Office laptop is better in the long run quailty wise and spec wise (that home office computers will break down faster in the future as to a business computer), is this really true?

Does anyone have any suggestions. The price range doesn't really matter as long it isn't like over a thousand dollars. I've heard many things about many different types of computers. A few days ago I came home to find my (not even a year old yet) G4 17" Powerbook frozen. Rebooted and got stuck on the loading screen. The people at the Apple store informed me the hard drive was shot and that it can't even "read the directory".

Does anyone know of a way I can salvage my files without spending $500 on recovery fees? I've already tried the NVRAM reset and got stuck at the loading screen again. the PMU reset did nothing. Any ideas, guys?

When I go into power management, the comp senses the batt and the amount of charge in it. If you unplug the power cord, the unit shuts off. It will not boot on battery either. Is there something in the software that prohibits battery usage?

Got a new MacBook in May (white), and it keeps shutting off suddenly while I'm using it! It does this every few hours. I think it shuts off quicker when it is hot, but I'm not sure.
Suggestions?

I see these "HD ready" stickers on TVs, but I have no idea whether that even applies to my MacBook Pro. Can someone help me out? I'd like an explanation of what "HD ready" means in terms of a computer, in particular my MB Pro.
