I need to buy a laptop, and i need your recommendation. I will be using it for mostly work and website creation/editing.

I do not need for gaming...

My budget is below $2000 but do not want to compromise on quality.

I was using an Apple but i would like to switch to another brand, because i don't think it is compatible with other laptops.

An Apple iMac is not so compatible with other computers, right?

i just did a check on the Dell homepage, they already sell notebooks with the brandnew Core 2 Duo processors.

i've checked 2 notebooks, the Inspiron E1705 with 17inch screen and the E1505 with 15.4inch screen:

CPU: Core 2 Duo T7200
Ram: 1GB
HD: 120GB
CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R
Graphics: Geforce Go 7300 (E1505), ATI X1400 (E1505) both have 128MB dedicated Ram (the other 128MB are shared with the main memory).
Screen: True Life (E1505), normal XGA (E1705) [the extra charge of $299 for True Life on the E1705 is imo too high]

Cost: $1300 for the E1505, resp. around $1500 for the E1705

another opportunity are Toshiba notebooks that i can recommend:
15.4" screen: the A100/A105 series
17" screen: the P100 series

Try Lenovo, heard it's pretty good and should still have units below your budget, it's afterall an IBM product that is now done by Lenovo.
