I'm looking at getting a new gaming pc from alienware and i am trying to decide whether to get the area 51 that comes with the intel or the aura that comes with the AMD. the amd is alot cheaped but i am wondering what i would lose out of getting that then the intel. im not into alot of hardcore gaming but i do want a pc that wont freeze up during play and runs very fast.

Last week my computer crashed and the company was able to fix it but I had lost all of my favorites that I saved. Does anyone know how I can get them back? I have a Dell XP.
Thanks!

I'm interested in space saving design (OptiPlex Series) from the Dell Business Line. The competing option is HP Pavilion Slimline Series. I would like to minimize the space of my workstation at home and get away from a tower, but was instructed that it is actually a risk to stop using a larger tower. Was told that the reduced case size doesn't allow proper airflow and can shorten the lifespan of the components. Is this true?

Also, is HP or Dell better choice in terms of both technical support and value? Additionally I am not an individual who modifies PCs so all included hard drive, RAM, CPU, video and sound cards, etc is what I intend on keeping for the duration of ownership.

faster than my original which has a 160GB drive(not sure about the cache size) Its an emachines T6528 desktop. Anyway I dont need more storage space, just lookin for speed-was wondering if I added one with a 16MB cache if I would be able to notice the speed difference. I have 1.5GB ram and a AMD64 3500 processor. I already defrag and clean the C: drive and other maintenance.

...some of the keys don't work properly or consistently, for example the volume control and music buttons seem disabled one day then the next day it sometimes works properly.

Can I resolve this on my own or is it trashed?

It's a Dell keyboard / component.

If my pc has been unused for a while, even minutes at times, it freezes upon trying to logon. I have to reboot everytime to use it. Also I always get a popup that says "Some startup programs have been blocked". I've clicked on the popup and it has the item that is blocked, but I don't recognize it so I won't open it.

I just bought all the parts for a brand new computer, and the Processor I went with was the Core 2 Duo e6600. This sucker is a 2.4 Ghz and I am reading everywhere that people are clocking them up to 2.7-3 GHz with stock cooling. I don't care much for stock coolers so I bought a Rosewill Z series: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200026
The question is should I overclock? Im using this computer for my recording studio so I will be encoding audio with it and processing effects in real time and occasionally some video. Is the performance boost going to be worth it? My friend says Over clocking shortens your processor life. What would you do and why?

I have F@ H (folding at home) running on 2 computers.
1 has the specs below:
Intel Celeron D 3.44ghz
512mb RAM
Some intel mobo

The other is
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4600+@26416
1gb Geil RAM
Gigabyte mobo with N-Force 430 chip-set

Would it be ok to have the Intel computer running at 15% CPU usage for 13hrs and for the AMD computer running at 45% cpu usage for 13hrs? They both have good cooling on them.
What i want to know will it damage any thing?
The Intel computer is about 3 months old and the AMD computer is about 2.
