Is having a total Ram of 640 better then 512 or it doesnt matter or it slows down the 512 by not being the same?

Your RAM specs are here, just scroll down a bit:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/ug/specs.htm#1110653
Installation instructions are here:

Your PCs BIOS will synchronize to the speed of the slowest module in case you install modules w/ different speeds. Bigger RAM is always better. The speed difference won't matter much compared to the gain in overall performance w/ bigger RAM.
With small RAM, your PC keeps using virtual memory w/c slows down your PC to a crawl.
